Welcome to ARMA Denton

Welcome to the official site of ARMA Denton, the local study group for the Association for Renaissance Martial Arts representing Denton, Texas. The ARMA is an educational non-profit organization dedicated to the study and practice of historical fencing and the exploration and promotion of our Western martial heritage. We strive to revitalize a martial tradition whose methods and techniques have been preserved almost exclusively in written records, illustrations, iconography, and surviving artifacts. Our focus is on the interpretation and legitimate reconstruction of medieval and Renaissance combat systems as a modern discipline. Our program allows people to freely and seriously practice this subject without the concerns of staged fighting and sporting play, or the distractions of role-playing and fantasy.

Several members of ARMA Denton were invited to attend Comicpalooza 2019 as guests of the Houston Study Group. Comicpalooza is the largest annual, multi-genre, comic book, science fiction, anime, gaming, and pop-culture convention in the Southern United States. This year it was held on 10-13 May and attracted thousands of visitors. Special guests included Emilia Clarke and Nathalie Emmanuel of HBO's incredibly popular television series Game of Thrones.

The ARMA booth included a wide array of period weapons that visitors were encouraged to pick up and handle. Hundreds of interesed attendees also took advantage of the introductory lessons on the knightly art of combat, including the longsword, dagger, spear, and shield. Betwen classes, ARMA members were on hand to answer questions. A small gallery of photos is included below.

Comicpalooza takes place at the George R. Brown Convention Center located on the east side of Downtown Houston, Texas. It is located at 1001 Avenida de las Americas, Houston, Texas 77010.
